FAQ

Activation & Setup

1. How do I activate my BaliSIM eSIM after purchase?
Once you complete your purchase, you’ll receive an email with your unique QR code and step‑by‑step instructions. On your phone:

  1. Make sure you’re connected to Wi‑Fi.

  2. Open Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Add eSIM / Add Mobile Plan.

  3. Scan the QR code from your BaliSIM email thru cs@balisim.com

  4. Set BaliSIM as your data SIM (you can usually keep your primary number for calls/WhatsApp).

  5. Turn on Data Roaming for the BaliSIM line.
Your eSIM will connect automatically once you arrive in Indonesia.

2. When should I install and activate my BaliSIM eSIM?
You can install your BaliSIM eSIM a few days before you travel, as long as you have a stable Wi‑Fi connection to scan the QR code. We recommend:

  • Install the eSIM before your trip (so you’re ready on arrival).

  • Start using data once you land in Indonesia by turning on data roaming and selecting BaliSIM as your data line.
Your validity period usually begins when the eSIM first connects to a local network in Indonesia, not at the time of purchase.

3. Can I use BaliSIM and my home SIM at the same time?
Yes. Most modern smartphones support dual SIM (physical + eSIM or dual eSIM). You can:

  • Keep your home number active for calls/SMS/WhatsApp.

  • Use BaliSIM as your main data connection in Indonesia.
Just make sure that in your phone settings BaliSIM is selected for mobile data and data roaming is enabled for the BaliSIM line.

4. What devices are compatible with BaliSIM eSIMs?
BaliSIM is compatible with unlocked, eSIM‑enabled smartphones and tablets (for example most recent iPhone, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy models). If you’re unsure:

  • Check eSIM compatibility on your device manufacturer’s website, or

  • Go to Settings → About / Mobile → eSIM / Digital SIM on your phone.
Your device must also be network‑unlocked (not tied to a single carrier) to use a BaliSIM eSIM in Indonesia.

Coverage & Network

1. Where does BaliSIM have coverage in Bali and Indonesia?
BaliSIM connects to leading Indonesian mobile networks to give you coverage across Bali, Jakarta, major cities, and many popular islands. In Bali, you can typically expect coverage in:

  • Denpasar, Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Jimbaran, Uluwatu

  • Ubud and surrounding areas

  • Many tourist‑friendly beaches and resort areas
Coverage can be more limited in very remote villages, mountains, or small islands.

2. How fast is the BaliSIM data connection?
In most urban and tourist areas, you can expect 4G/LTE and increasingly 5G‑level speeds, suitable for:

  • Maps and ride‑hailing apps

  • Social media and video calls

  • Email, streaming music, and light video streaming
Speeds may be slower in rural or crowded areas, or during peak hours, as with any mobile network.

3. Will my BaliSIM eSIM work on nearby islands outside Bali?
Yes, BaliSIM typically works across Indonesia, not just Bali. This includes many popular side‑trip destinations (e.g. Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, the Gilis, Lombok, and major cities like Jakarta or Surabaya).
However, coverage and speeds can vary by island and local infrastructure, so you may experience weaker signal in very remote or less‑developed areas.

4. Does BaliSIM include hotspot/tethering?
Most BaliSIM plans support personal hotspot/tethering, so you can share your data with a laptop or travel companion. Some devices and local networks may restrict tethering on certain plans. If hotspot is essential for you, please check the details of your chosen plan or contact us before you buy.

Billing & Refunds

1. How does pricing work and are there any hidden fees?
BaliSIM offers prepaid eSIM data packages with clear data allowances and validity periods. You pay once upfront for the package you choose—there are no contracts, roaming surprises, or hidden daily fees from us. If you use up your data, you can simply purchase another package.

2. Can I change, cancel, or get a refund for my BaliSIM purchase?
Yes, please contact us at cs@balisim.com we’ll do our best to help and assess on a case‑by‑case basis.

Troubleshooting

1. My eSIM isn’t connecting after I arrive in Bali. What should I check first?
Try the following steps:

  1. Make sure BaliSIM is set as your data SIM in Settings.

  2. Turn Data Roaming ON for the BaliSIM line.

  3. Toggle Airplane Mode ON/OFF or restart your phone.

  4. Ensure mobile data is enabled and you are in an area with signal.
If it still doesn’t connect, see the APN/Network settings in the Technical section below or contact support.

2. I scanned the QR code but get an error when installing the eSIM.
Common fixes:

  • Confirm your phone is eSIM‑compatible and unlocked.

  • Make sure you have a stable Wi‑Fi connection while scanning.

  • Check that the QR code hasn’t already been fully installed on another device.
If you still see an error, take a screenshot of the message and reach out to our support team for assistance.

3. My data is very slow or keeps dropping.
Network performance can vary by area and time of day. Try:

  • Moving to an open area or closer to a window.

  • Turning airplane mode ON and OFF.

  • Restarting your phone.

  • Manually selecting another available network in Settings → Mobile Networks / Carrier.
If speeds remain consistently poor in areas that should have coverage, contact us with your location and device details.

4. I can’t use certain apps (e.g. banking, streaming) with BaliSIM.
Some apps may behave differently when you’re on an Indonesian IP address or may have additional security checks when you’re abroad. Try:

  • Logging out and back into the app.

  • Using Wi‑Fi if available.

  • Checking for app updates.
If an app is blocked in Indonesia or has region restrictions, that is usually controlled by the app provider, not BaliSIM.

Technical

1. What APN settings should I use for BaliSIM?
In most cases, your APN (Access Point Name) will be configured automatically when the eSIM activates. If you need to enter it manually, please refer to the instructions in your confirmation email or contact support, as APN values can differ by underlying network partner.

2. Do I need to enable data roaming for BaliSIM to work?
Yes. Even though you’re using a local Indonesian profile while in Indonesia, BaliSIM often uses roaming‑style configuration on your device. Make sure Data Roaming is turned ON for the BaliSIM line, and BaliSIM is selected as your primary mobile data SIM.

3. Can I reuse my BaliSIM eSIM for a future trip to Bali?
Most BaliSIM eSIMs are sold as one‑time packages tied to a specific validity period (for example, 7, 15, or 30 days). After the plan expires, the eSIM profile may no longer be usable. For future trips, you’ll usually need to buy a new BaliSIM package. Check your specific plan details in your order confirmation.

4. Is my data secure when I use BaliSIM?
BaliSIM uses the security standards of major mobile networks in Indonesia. Your mobile data is encrypted over the cellular network in the same way as other local users. As with any internet connection, we recommend using HTTPS websites, keeping your apps updated, and using a VPN if you require an additional layer of privacy for sensitive work or banking tasks.
